Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the bulldozer. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, “Bulldozer – Remove”.
  2. Remove the trunnion . Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, “Trunnion – Remove”.
  3. Separate the track. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, “Track – Separate”.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, “Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog” for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Personal injury or death can result from falling track.

Separating a track can cause the track to fall too fast.

Before doing any service work which requires separating a track, a thorough inspection of the front track roller frame must be made.

The tractor must be on a hard, level surface before the track roller frame is removed.

  1. Use Tooling (A) and two 55 ton screw jacks to raise the machine. Raise the machine approximately 25.4 mm (1 inch) so the pressure in the bogie pads is released.

  1. Install Tooling (B) in order to hold the major bogies in place when the machine is lifted.
  1. Lift the machine until guides (1) are above the top surface of the track.
  1. Remove plug (2) . Drain the oil from the pivot shaft into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

  1. Put Tooling (C) in position under the front of the track roller frame.

  1. Remove bolts (4) that hold seal retainer (3) to the main frame case.

  1. Install steel shims between the equalizer bar and the main frame case in order to keep the equalizer bar in the original position when the track roller frame is removed.


    NOTICE

    To prevent damage to the pivot shaft seal, make sure the bolts that hold the pivot shaft seal retainer to the main frame case has been removed before the equalizer bar is disconnected.



  1. Use Tooling (C) to support the track roller frame when the equalizer bar is disconnected from the track roller frame.
  1. If necessary, remove bolts (13) and guard (12) from spacers (14) . Remove the bolts and nuts (5) . Install Tooling (D) in the end of pin (6) . Drive pin (6) out of the track roller frame and equalizer bar.

  1. Remove plug (7) from plate (8) .
  1. Remove ring (9) that holds the plate in the track roller frame.

  1. Use Tooling (F) in order to remove plate (8) from the track roller frame.

    The heavy assembly can fall if using an incorrect hoist to lift the load.

  1. Fasten a suitable lifting device and Tooling (E) to the track roller frame. The weight of the track roller frame is approximately 4354 kg (9600 lb).
  1. Remove bolts (10) and plate (11) from the end of the pivot shaft.
  1. Use the suitable lifting device and Tooling (E) to remove the track roller frame.
