D6D TRACTOR POWER TRAIN – Transmission And Transfer Gear (Power Shift)

Remove And Install Transmission And Transfer Gears (Power Shift)

Start By:

a. tilt cab back (if so equipped)*

b. remove Roll-Over Protective Structure (if so equipped)*

c. remove dash

d. remove universal joint (power shift)

e. remove sequence relief valve (power shift)

f. remove torque converter outlet relief valve (power shift)

g. remove lubrication relief valve (power shift)

*

1. Drain the oil from the bevel gear case.

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants put into the system may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

2. Remove two brake control rods (2).

3. Remove two steering clutch control rods (1).

4. Remove tube assembly (4).

5. Disconnect elbow (6).

6. Remove tube assembly (5).

7. Remove clip (3). Move heater hoses away from the transmission.

8. Disconnect rod assemblies (7) and (8). Disconnect wires (9).

9. Fasten a tool (A) to the top of the transmission as shown. Fasten a hoist to tool (A).

10. Remove nuts (10). Remove the transmission and transfer gears (11) as a unit. The weight of the unit is 450 kg (1000 lb.).

11. Remove the O-ring seal from the groove in the transfer gear case. Check the seal for damage, replace if necessary.

NOTE: The following steps are for the installation of the transmission and transfer gears (power shift).

12. Fasten a hoist and tool (A) to the transmission and transfer gears. Install a new O-ring seal in the groove on the transfer gear case.

13. Position transmission and transfer gears (11) and install the washers and nuts.

14. Connect rod assemblies (7) and (8). If necessary, make adjustments to the transmission hydraulic control valves and linkage. See Control Valves and Linkage Adjustment in Power Shift Transmission Testing and Adjusting.

15. Position the heater hoses above the transmission and install clip (3).

16. Fasten elbow (6).

17. Install tube assemblies (4) and (5).

18. Install brake control rods (2) and steering clutch control rods (1).

End By:

a. install lubrication relief valve (power shift)

b. install torque converter outlet relief valve (power shift)

c. install sequence relief valve (power shift)

d. install universal joint (power shift)

e. install dash

f. install Roll-Over Protective Structure (if so equipped)*

NOTICE

Perform Scheduled Oil Sampling on oil wetted compartments after performing service work to check for contaminants left in the system following repair. Contaminants put into the system may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
