14. Remove the nut used for adjustment of final drive hub bearings from the holder assembly.
15. Remove gasket (17) and seal (18).
16. Use tooling (B) to remove cage (16) and bearing cup (15) as a unit.
17. Remove the bearing cup from the cage with tooling (C).
18. Bend lock (20) that holds nut (19) in position.
19. Remove bearing (21) as follows:
a. Loosen nut (21) with tool (D) until there is a distance of 25.4 mm (1 in.) between the nut and sprocket.
b. Turn nut (22) in (hand turn) until tool (E) can be installed between bearing (21) and nut (22) as shown.
c. Turn nut (22) with tool (D) to remove the bearing completely from the hub. Remove the nut and lock from the hub.
20. Install nut (2) on the hub again until there is 6.3 mm (.25 in.) clearance between the nut and sprocket. Nut (22) is used as a safety stop if there is a failure of the sprocket shaft during removal of the sprocket with tooling (F).

21. Install tooling (F) on the end of the sprocket shaft and sprocket (23) as shown.
22. Loosen the sprocket with tooling (F). Remove tooling (F) and nut (22).
23. Fasten a hoist to the sprocket. Remove the sprocket from the hub. The weight of the sprocket is 144 kg (320 lb).
24. Remove Duo-Cone seals (24) and (25). Put identification on the seals for correct installation.
25. Remove the extension assembly on Low Ground Pressure machines only as follows:
a. Fasten a hoist to extension assembly (26). Remove bolts (27) that hold the extension assembly to the final drive case. Remove the extension assembly. The weight of the extension assembly is 25 kg (55 lb).

|
NOTICE |
---|
Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants put into the system may cause rapid wear and shortened component life. |
|
1. Install the extension assembly for Low Ground Pressure machines only as follow:
a. Make sure the machined surfaces of the extension assembly and the final drive case are clean. Put 7M7260 Liquid Gasket Material on the machined surfaces.
b. Fasten a hoist to extension assembly (26) and install it on the final drive case. Install bolts (27).
NOTE: For assembly and installation of duo-cone seals, see topic, Duo-Cone Seals, in this manual.
2. Install the Duo-Cone seal in the sprocket and final drive case with tool (A).
NOTE: The rubber seals and all of the surfaces that make contact with the rubber seal must be clean and dry. Put clean SAE 30 oil on the contact surfaces of the metal seals.
|
NOTICE |
---|
Make sure the splines on the hub are clean and dry. |
|
3. Fasten a hoist to the sprocket. Push the sprocket on the hub as far as possible by hand.
Typical Example
4. Install tooling (B) for installation of the sprocket as follows:
a. Install head (28) on the cylinder group.
b. Install adapter (29) on the cylinder group.
c. Run the cylinder rod out all of the way.
d. Install adapters (31) and (32).
e. Put the sleeve from tooling (B) on the sprocket shaft and connect the cylinder group to the adapters on the sprocket shaft.
f. Put the pump group in position and put small amount of force on the sprocket.
5. Install the sprocket with tooling (B) with a force of 400 to 445 kN (45 to 50 tons).
6. Remove tooling (B) from the sprocket shaft. Check the distance between the end of the splines on the hub and the end of the sprocket with a depth micrometer. The distance must be 7.14 ± 1.52 mm (.281 ± .060 in.).
7. Install the lock and nut (19) on the hub. Tighten the nut with tool (C).
8. Heat bearing (21) to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F). Install the bearing on the hub and against the nut as shown.
9. Bend the lock over the nut to hold it in position.
10. Lower the temperature of bearing cup (15). Install the bearing cup in cage (16) until it makes contact with the bottom of the cage.
11. Put cage (16) in position on the holder with the groove in the cage in alignment with the dowel in the holder. Use a soft hammer to install the cage in the holder.
NOTE: Coat seal (18) with liquid soap before installing.
12. Install a new gasket (33). Install a new seal (18).
13. Install the nut on the holder for the outer bearing adjustment.
NOTE: For assembly and installation of duo-cone seals, see topic, Duo-Cone Seals, in this manual.
14. Install the Duo-Cone seal in the cage with tool (A).
NOTE: The rubber seals and all of the surfaces that make contact with the rubber seal must be clean and dry. Put clean SAE 30 oil on the surfaces of the metal seals.
NOTE: For assembly and installation of duo-cone seals, see topic, Duo-Cone Seals, in this manual.
15. Install the Duo-Cone seal in the sprocket with tool (A).
16. Fasten a hoist to holder assembly (12. Put the holder assembly on the sprocket shaft.
|
NOTICE |
---|
Make sure the groove in the holder assembly is in alignment with the key on the sprocket shaft. |
|
An early version seal (18) is illustrated.
17. Lower the temperature of bearing (7) and install in the support as shown.
18. Install seal (8) in the support with the lip of the seal toward the outside of the support. The seal is installed even with the outside edge of the support.
