Remove Engines (Power Shift, Direct Drive And Special Application)

START BY:

a) remove universal joint (power shift)*

b) remove universal joint (direct drive and special application)*

c) remove radiator and radiator guard (all models)

1. Drain the oil from the flywheel clutch (direct drive and special application machines).

2. Drain the oil from the torque divider housing (power shift machines).

3. Drain the oil from the transmission and bevel gear cases.

4. Drain the coolant from the cooling systems.

5. Turn the valve for the fuel supply to the “OFF” position.

Direct Drive And Special Application

6. Disconnect interlock linkage (1) at the lever on the flywheel clutch.

7. Disconnect clip (2) from the mounting bracket for the hydraulic tank.

Direct Drive And Special Application

8. Disconnect rod assembly (3) and rod assembly (5) from the lever on the flywheel clutch. Remove lever (4) from the flywheel clutch.

Direct Drive And Special Application

9. Remove tube assemblies (9) and (8) from the flywheel clutch. Disconnect hose assembly (6) and hose assembly (7) from the flywheel clutch.

Power Shift

10. Remove bracket (11) and clip (12) from the frame of the machine.

11. Disconnect hose assemblies (10) and 13) for the engine and transmission oil coolers.

Power Shift

12. Disconnect oil temperature line (15) from the torque converter outlet relief valve. Disconnect tube assembly (14) from the valve.

Power Shift

13. Disconnect hose assembly (18) from the sequence relief valve. Disconnect hose assembly (17) from the sequence relief valve.

14. Disconnect tube assembly (19) from the scavenge pump. Disconnect hose assembly (16).

To prevent personal injury, before any service is performed on the refrigerant compressor for air conditioning, see subjects: Preparation Of System For Replacement Or Repair Of Components and Refrigerant Hoses and Lines in Air Conditioning and Heating Service Manual SENR7454.

15. Remove plate (20) and two refrigerant hoses (21) from the compressor.

16. Remove clip (22) from the frame of the machine.

17. Disconnect two wires (23) from the refrigerant compressor.

18. Disconnect two rod assemblies (25) and (26) from the bellcranks for the hydraulic controls.

19. Disconnect governor control rod (24) at the bellcrank that is fastened to the bracket on the dash.

20. Disconnect positive battery cable (28) from the electric starting motor. Disconnect wire harness (27) for the back-up warning alarm.

21. Turn cock (32) and valve (33) to the “OFF” position.

22. Remove clip (30) and clip (31). Disconnect hose (29) at the water pump adapter. Disconnect hose (34) from the valve in the bonnet for the transmission oil cooler.

23. Disconnect tube assemblies (37) and (38) for the oil and fuel pressure gauges.

24. Remove inlet tube assembly (39) from the pump. Remove water temperature sending unit line (36). Remove bolt (35) that holds the clip for the battery cable. Move the battery cable away from the engine.

25. Disconnect fuel line (40) from the fuel filter base.

26. Drain the oil from the hydraulic tank.

27. Remove four bolts (44) and two bolts (42). Remove tube assembly (43) and tube assembly (41). Remove the support for the tube assemblies from the cylinder head.

28. Fasten a hoist to air assembly (46). Disconnect hose (47) and hose (45) from the air cleaner assembly. Remove the four bolts that hold the air cleaner assembly to the inlet manifold. remove the air cleaner assembly. The weight of the air cleaner assembly is 70 lb. (32 kg).

29. Remove bracket (48) form the hydraulic tank.

30. Disconnect rod assembly (49) from the bellcrank in bracket (50). Remove bracket (50) from the dash.

31. Remove the plate from the top of the dash inside of the cab. Disconnect the fuel pressure tube assembly from the gauge in the dash. Disconnect the tube assembly for the oil pressure from the gauge. Put identification on the tube assemblies and remove them from the dash.

Later Machine

32. Disconnect rod assemblies (51) and (52) from the bellcrank for the hydraulic controls. Put identification on the rods for correct installation.

33. Remove hose (53) from the breather group in the valve cover.

34. Install tooling (A) in the cylinder head as shown. Fasten a hoist with chains and a spreader bar to the engine.

NOTE: The spreader bar will prevent damage to the turbocharger from the chains.

35. Remove the two bolts and nuts that hold the engine front support to the frame of the machine.

NOTE: Illustration B55969X1 shows the engine rear supports for later machines.

36. Remove the bolts on each side of the machine that hold the flywheel housing to the frame of the machine. Remove engine (54) from the machine. The weight of the engine, hydraulic tank and flywheel clutch is 2900 lb. (1315 kg). The weight of the engine, hydraulic tank and torque converter is 3000 lb. (1360 kg).

37. Remove shims (55) at each rear position on the frame of the machine. Put identification on the shims for correct installation.

Install Engines (Power Shift, Direct Drive And Special Application)

NOTE: Illustrations are of an earlier machine except where shown different.

1. Install original amount of shims (1) on each side of the frame of the machine at the rear.

NOTE: Later machines do not have dowels in the frame.

2. Fasten a hoist to engine (2) and put it in position on the frame of the machine. Make sure the flywheel housing is in position over the dowels in the frame at the rear.

Later Machine

3. Install the bolts and nuts that hold the engine front support to the frame of the machine. Tighten the bolts and nuts to a torque of 325 ± 25 lb.ft. (440 ± 35 N·m).

NOTE: Illustration B55970X1 shows the rear engine supports for later machines.

4. Install the bolts on each side of the machine, that hold the flywheel housing to the frame of the machine. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 200 ± 25 lb.ft. (270 ± 35 N·m).

5. Connect the hose to the breather group on the valve cover.

6. Connect rod assemblies (3) and (4) to the bellcrank for the hydraulic controls. Make sure the rods are in the correct positions.

7. Install tube assemblies (5) and (6) for the fuel pressure and oil pressure through the holes in the rear of the dash. Connect the tube assemblies to the correct gauges in the dash. Install the plate over the opening in the top of the dash.

8. Install bracket (7) on the dash. Connect rod assembly (8) to the bellcrank in bracket (7).

9. Install bracket (9) and the bolts that hold it.

10. Install a new gasket on the intake manifold for the air cleaner assembly. Fasten a hoist to air cleaner assembly (10) and put it in position on the intake manifold (11) on the air cleaner assembly. Tighten the clamps that hold it. Install hose (12) on the turbocharger and tighten the clamps that hold it.

11. Install support (15). Install tube assemblies (13) and (14).

12. Fill the hydraulic tank with oil to the correct level. See Maintenance Guide.

13. Connect fuel line (16) to the fuel filter base.

14. Put the battery cable and clip in position over the flywheel housing. Install bolt (17) that holds it.

15. Install inlet tube assembly (19) on the pump.

16. Install water temperature sending unit line (18).

17. Connect tube assemblies (5) and (6) for the oil pressure and fuel pressure.

18. Connect hose (20) to the cock on the water pump adapter. Connect hose (21) to the valve in the bonnet for the transmission oil cooler. Install the clips that hold the hoses to the engine. Turn the cock and the valve in the “ON” position.

19. Connect wire harness (24) for the backup warning alarm.

20. Connect rod assembly (23) for the governor control to the bellcrank.

21. Connect positive battery cable (25) to the electric starting motor.

22. Connect rod assemblies (22) and (26) for the hydraulic controls to the bellcranks.

23. Install new O-ring seals in refrigerant hoses (28) and (29). Put the hoses in position on the back of the compressor and install the plate and bolt that hold it.

24. Connect two wires (27) to the compressor.

25. Put the ground cable for the starting motor in position under clip (30). Fasten the clip to the frame with a bolt.

Power Shift

26. Connect tube assembly (34) to the scavenge pump.

27. Connect hose assembly (31) at the top of the sequence relief valve.

28. Connect hose assembly (33) to the sequence relief valve. Connect hose assembly (32) to the sequence relief valve.

29. Connect oil temperature line (36) to the torque converter outlet relief valve. Connect tube assembly (35) to the valve.

Power Shift

30. Connect hose assemblies (37) and (40) for the engine and transmission oil coolers.

31. Install bracket (38) and clip (39) as shown.

Direct Drive And Special Application

32. Connect hose assembly (41) and hose assembly (42) to the flywheel clutch.

33. Install tube assemblies (43) and (44).

34. Install lever (46) on the flywheel clutch.

35. Connect rod assembly (45) and rod assembly (47) to lever (46).

36. Connect clip (49) to the bracket on the bottom of the hydraulic oil tank.

37. Connect interlock linkage assembly (48) to the lever on the flywheel clutch.

38. Turn the valve for the fuel supply to the “ON” position.

39. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. See Maintenance Guide.

40. Fill the transmission and bevel gear case with oil to the correct level. See Maintenance Guide.

END BY:

a) install radiator and radiator guard (all models)

b) install universal joint (direct drive and special application)*

c) install universal joint (power shift)*
