3306 DIRECT INJECTION VEHICULAR ENGINE WITH NEW SCROLL FUEL – Fuel Injection Pumps

Remove And Install Fuel Injection Pumps

START BY:

a) remove fuel check valve and bypass valve *

1. Disconnect the fuel injection lines from the fuel injection pumps. Put plugs or caps on the openings.

2. Loosen bushings (1) with tool (A) until the threads are free from the fuel injection pump housing.

NOTE: Do not loosen screw (2) when the pumps are removed or installed.

3. Remove fuel injection pumps (3) from the fuel injection pump housing. Sleeves (4) will slide off levers (5) as the pumps are removed.

NOTE: Keep the plungers and sleeves with their respective barrels for installation.


NOTICE

Make sure the sleeves are installed with the thin edge up.


4. Put fuel injection pumps (3) in the bore of the fuel injection pump housing.

5. Make sure the groove in sleeves (4) are engaged with levers (5). Tighten bushing (1) with tool (A) to a torque of 70 ± 5 lb.ft. (95 ± 7 N·m).

NOTE: If levers (5) have been moved on the shaft, a fuel pump adjustment must be made. (See TESTING AND ADJUSTING)

6. Connect the fuel injection lines to the fuel injection pumps. Tighten the nuts to a torque of 30 ± 5 lb.ft. (40 ± 7 N·m) with tool (B).

a) install fuel check valve and bypass valve

Disassemble Fuel Injenction Pumps

START BY:

a) remove fuel injection pump

1. Remove bushing (1) and seal (7) from bonnet (2).

2. Remove ring (4) from the bonnet and barrel (9). Remove check valve (3) and spring (8) from the bonnet.

3. Remove spring (10) and washer (5). Remove plunger (11) and sleeve (6).

NOTE: Keep the plunger and sleeve with their respective barrel for installation. Do not use plungers, sleeves or barrels with other plungers, sleeves or barrels.

Assemble Fuel Injection Pumps

1. Install sleeve (4), plunger (5), spring (2) and washer (3) on barrel (1).


NOTICE

Make sure the sleeve is installed with the thin edge up.


NOTE: Be sure the sleeve and plunger are installed in their original barrel. Make sure the large hole in the plunger is up.

2. Install the check valve and spring in the bonnet. Connect the barrel and bonnet and install the ring. Install the seal and bushing on the bonnet.
